Authorized Push Payment (APP) Scam
An Authorized Push Payment (APP) scam occurs when a legitimate account holder is deceived, manipulated, or coerced into authorizing a payment to an account controlled by a fraudster. An APP scam may take different forms, including investment scam, romance scam, remote access scam, impersonation fraud, elder abuse and Business Email Compromise (BEC). While the scam techniques may differ, the common characteristic is that the payment is authorized by the victim rather than initiated by an unauthorized party.
How EyesOnBio Can Help
Our Behavioral Identity Intelligence platform spots Authorized Push Payment (APP) scams by continuously monitoring behavioral, navigational and device interaction patterns, identifying when a legitimate account owner is potentially acting under a scammer's coercion or control.
Passwords, OTPs and MFA usually fail to detect APP scams as they trick the real owner into authorizing the payment themselves. Behavioral patterns help indicate stress, coercion, remote access, automation and other deviations from usual behavior and enables timely blocking action to stop financial losses before they occur.
